Kennedy 2023 Hindi

Kennedy (2023) is a dark, atmospheric crime-thriller from acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his unflinching portrayals of societys underbelly. Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, the film occupies a liminal space between noir and psychological drama a gritty story of redemption, guilt, and moral ambiguity set against the violent backdrop of Mumbais criminal world. Kashyaps trademark style heavy on mood, character complexity, and visual grit runs through every frame, making Kennedy a cinematic experience that stays with viewers long after it ends.

In Kennedy, Kashyap crafts the tale of Uday Shetty, an ex-police officer presumed dead who now lives on the fringes, operating under the alias Kennedy. Haunted by his past actions and trapped in a corrupt system, Kennedy works as a covert operative a hired killer for dubious masters even as he searches for a glimmer of redemption. The narrative unfolds across several tense nights in a morally broken Mumbai, where justice is always shadowed by betrayal and power protects the guilty.

The film features Rahul Bhat in a haunting lead performance as Kennedy, bringing vulnerability and volatility to his characters fractured psyche. Alongside him, Sunny Leone plays Charlie a glamorous yet mysterious woman who draws Kennedy deeper into a world of deception and danger. The cast includes key performances from Mohit Takalkar as Commissioner Rasheed Khan, Abhilash Thapliyal as Chandan, Shrikant Yadav as SI Abhijit Kaale, and Megha Burman as Anuradha, each contributing to the films tense, layered ensemble.

Visually, Kennedy leans into neo-noir aesthetics shadowy alleyways, dimly lit interiors, and a muted palette give the film a brooding, almost dreamlike quality. The pacing is deliberate, with long stretches of silence and internal reflection contrasting sharply with brutal bursts of violence and moral reckoning. Some critics have praised the films mood and Bhats performance, while others found the tension and pacing uneven, describing it as slow-burn and heavy in tone rather than conventionally thrilling.

After its global festival run including Cannes and the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023 Kennedy had a unique release journey. It skipped a traditional wide theatrical rollout, instead becoming available digitally first via the Letterboxd Video Store in December 2025 and later streaming on ZEE5 in February 2026, finally making it accessible to Indian audiences after years of festival buzz.

Distributor / Streaming: Letterboxd Video Store (global TVOD), ZEE5 (India OTT)

Critically, Kennedy has been polarizing admired for its bold tone and narrative ambition but critiqued by some for its pacing and the heaviness of its thematic dark corners. It is less about conventional thrills and more about character descent, societal critique, and the moral fog that Kashyap often explores in his work making it a film suited to viewers who appreciate atmospheric, brooding cinema over straightforward action.
